Expressions of Interest are being sought for the position of Director on the Board of Hawke’s Bay Airport Limited.
Hawke’s Bay Airport Ltd (HBAL) is 50% owned by the Crown, 26% by Napier City Council and 24% by Hastings District Council. The company’s principal business is domestic air services, and it has started developing a business park on adjoining land to enhance the non-aeronautical side of the business.
The business drivers in the short to medium term are:
- Continuing the recovery from the financial impacts of COVID-19
- Enhancing relationships with airlines and route development opportunities
- Relationships with the tourism industry, business community, local government, and the wider community
- Continuing to seek opportunities for growth of non-aeronautical revenue including the development of a solar energy farm
- Improving the Customer experience through enhanced use of technology
- Continuing to develop its business park with revenue growth and diversification
There are four directors on the HBAL Board – two are appointed by the Napier City Council and Hastings District Council, and two by the Crown. This vacancy will be an appointment made by the Napier City Council and Hastings District Council.
In addition to the basic requirement for competencies in governance, management and financial matters, the company requires a board that has the capacity to grow the company’s responsiveness to tangata whenua and to identify, maintain and support strategic relationships with tangata whenua alongside an ethos for safety, experience in a capital intensive industry and inherently long lead times, knowledge of commercial property management and an understanding of the tourism industry.
The Board will continue to benefit from having directors with an understanding of the New Zealand business environment, in particular the Hawke’s Bay context, and HBAL’s involvement in the local market. Experience in governance, compliance activities, and the aviation and tourism markets would also be of value.
